The latest guidelines for scar management advocate silicone therapy as the first line therapy for hypertrophic and keloid scars1
Silicone is recommended “gold standard” for both the prevention and treatment of hypertrophic and keloid scars with gels being the preferred by patients4
Silicone gel, like Dermascar Classic, is equivalent in efficacy to traditional silicone gel sheeting but is easier to use1
Apply DermaScar twice daily – in the morning and evening. DermaScar must be applied to dry, intact skin.
If you have a scar from surgery, check that the wound has healed first before applying DermaScar.
This is typically 10 to 14 days after surgery. Before applying DermaScar clean the area first with mild soap and water and then pat dry.
Place a pea-size amount of gel at the tip of the scar and gently spread thinly over the affected area. A pea-size amount is enough to cover a 12cm scar. Allow the gel to dry for 1 to 2 minutes. Once dry, DermaScar may be covered with cosmetics or sunscreen.
