DermaScar & Scars

What type of scars can you use DermaScar on?

DermaScar works best on scars that are raised above the normal level of skin (hypertrophic and keloid scars) that are not older than two years.

DermaScar can be used on healed scars after surgery, and stretch marks.

DermaScar can be applied on the face and any part of the body, but be careful to avoid accidentally getting the gel in your eyes.

Can DermaScar be used on acne scars?

DermaScar works best on scars that are raised above the normal level of skin (hypertrophic and keloid scars). DermaScar is not indicated for certain types of acne scars. Please consult your healthcare professional.

Can I use DermaScar to prevent or avoid a scar?

If the skin has been damaged, there is no way to prevent or avoid a scar from forming, but you can make a scar less visible.

DermaScar markedly improves the appearance of scars – it makes scars lighter, flatter and softer.

For best results treatment with DermaScar should start early, once the wound is closed and healed.

Can I use DermaScar to completely remove a scar?

Unfortunately, even with plastic surgery it is not possible to make a scar completely invisible.

However, DermaScar visibly improves the appearance of scars – scars become lighter, flatter and softer.

For best results treatment with DermaScar should start early, once the wound is closed and healed, and may need to be continued for several months.

How do I know that DermaScar is working?

A scar is usually red or darker in colour than normal skin; it is thick, dry, raised up higher than the surrounding skin and can be itchy and painful.

Regular use of DermaScar will result in your scar becoming lighter, softer and flatter over time. DermaScar may also reduce any itchiness or pain.

It can take 1 to 2 months of treatment before you start to notice improvements in the appearance of a scar.

How long does the 15g tube last for?

A 15gram tube contains enough silicone gel to treat 3-4 inches (7.5-10 cm) scar twice a day for over 90 days.

How long should I use DermaScar for?

Clinical studies indicate that DermaScar works most effectively when it is in constant contact with the scar.

As DermaScar works continuously over 12 hours, it is important to regularly apply DermaScar twice a day. You should make applying DermaScar® a part of your daily routine applying it each morning and night. This should be done for at least 2 months to obtain the best possible result.

Further improvements in the appearance of the scar may occur with longer usage.

Can I apply other products such as makeup over DermaScar?

Once DermaScar has been applied and left to dry, other products such as sunscreen and makeup can be used over the top.

How else can I take care of my scar?

Scars, especially fresh ones, should not be exposed to extreme temperature. Avoid intense sunshine, sunbeds, saunas and extremely cold conditions.

Tight clothing should also be avoided as it can irritate or injure scar tissue.

Care should be taken during stretching and strengthening exercises because previously damaged skin is extremely sensitive. Remember it can take over a year for a scar to fully form.

Can DermaScar be used on babies or young children?

While there are no age restrictions for using DermaScar on younger children, please ensure that the product is not applied too closely to their mouth, nose or eyes.

Are any of your Silicone Gel products helpful for Stretch Marks?

DermaScar® Scar Gel for scar reduction is a silicone gel which can be effective in prevention and reduction of raised scar formation, such as hypertrophic and keloid scars, and has also been successfully used in reducing the appearance of scars caused by trauma, burns and surgery.

DermaScar Stretch Mark Oil is formulated with medical grade silicone oil and vitamin E to enhance skin elasticity and prevent stretch marks forming. The non-greasy oil is smooth and easy to apply to larger areas of skin and in conjunction with massage helps to prevent stretchmarks forming.

DermaScar Scar Gel would still help to treat stretchmarks; however the format/consistency may not be ideal for larger areas.

Is there anyting else I need to know before I start using DermaScar?

DermaScar is for external use only and should not be applied to open, wet or weeping wounds.

DermaScar should not be placed in contact with mucous membranes (e.g. inside your nostrils or mouth) and you should avoid contact with your eyes.

DermaScar should not be applied over other skin preparations such as antibiotic creams.
